YAKA TRAY

Overview: The project focuses on designing a tray for preferred kitchen products. The inspiration for the tray's design comes from Istanbul, a city that serves as a bridge between Europe and Anatolia.
Timeline: Summer 2019 (2 weeks)

Role: Industrial Designer

Toolkit: Procreate, Fusion 360, Blender
Yaka blends cultural values with contemporary design.
Yaka aims to create a fresh experience for enjoying snacks and wine. It fits the environment and doesn't take up space. You can get lost in the story of a city just by looking at Yaka.
Problem Statement

Enjoying wine and food in tight spaces, such as Italian balconies, can be challenging. Carrying glasses and making multiple trips for snacks is not only inconvenient but also time-consuming. However, these issues can be resolved by using a single tray.
Istanbul is more than just a photograph! As a bridge between Europe and Asia, it provides visitors with a multicultural experience. This vibrant city truly deserves recognition. Incorporating Istanbul as a symbol in the product would undoubtedly enhance its value.

Ideation
Sketches
I sketched to find the best form.
I drew sketches paying careful attention to the map view of Istanbul.

Moodboard

I focused on the materials I would use to create a mood board.
While searching for ways to reflect the warmth of wine culture, I incorporated materials referencing Istanbul: walnut wood and glass.
*While the warm tones of walnut wood complement the atmosphere, the added depth perception from the glass material draws inspiration from the Istanbul Bosphorus.

The Use Story

Anatolian fruits are placed on the right side of the tray, representing the Anatolian side, and European snacks are placed on the left side, representing the European side.

The wine glass floats in the deep waters of the Bosphorus.
The wine glasses are placed in the compartment above the glass. (Designed for 2 wine glasses max.)

The right part of the product that functions as a plate is reserved for Anatolian fruits. It represents the Anatolian Side of Istanbul. The tray has a slot to prevent the juice from flowing.

The left side of the tray represents the European Side. It is reserved for cheeses consumed with wine.

The glass section where goblets are placed represents the Bosphorus.

Glass material is used to reflect the depth of the sea.

The sides have been tapered to make the tray easier to hold.
